[oh, don't worry. he'll explain]

Aha. That's what it may look like, but don't worry. It's actually the phenomena known as the seasonal Halloween store. An establishment so cheap that they can only afford to open for the shortest amount of time possible. We might find some useful items in there.

Cheap plastic items, for the most part. Spooky decorations, things that make sounds when you go near them. But if you know how to dress them up a little, then in a pinch...

Also, you can get costumes there, but those are mostly overpriced.

Ah. Because there are a lot of social situations where a person might need to have a costume, and purchasing a costume avoids the possibility that the effort you put into making one yourself will be found embarrassing.

Don't worry. The secret to not feeling stressed about situations like that is not to care what people think. Though if you don't have time for a journey of self-acceptance before the party, there is a shortcut where you simply choose a costume that will make it appear that your motive was just to look attractive or cute. No one will be able to judge your effort or lack of effort because they'll be tricked into thinking you didn't care about that either way.

That's right! Even if you cared a lot, as long as they believe you didn't care, you'll be just fine!

[goes to submit this as my teaching someone a skill task.]

...Thanks, Norma. I wind up meeting all sorts of people in my business, so I try to have knowledge of the struggles people face.

It's just depressing. Though listen to me complain when you've been cooped up in here for weeks.

[it really sucks here!]

[making the nastiest face for a second.

I'd like to strangle that bastard myself, but...]

Yeah. Better not to get involved with people like that.

So I've heard.

[you ever have a guy who you have been holding yourself back from 1v1ing with all your might come and tell you about his sad backstory to explain why he's over your beef... ]

I don't plan to give him any more attention than he's already gotten. But I wanted to talk about how you've been. [since she suggested yesterday it was hard to talk about with all these weirdos.]

Me neither.

[he didn’t expect it to be anything, really.]

Pretty much thought I was just a goner.

Well, ideally you don’t become a ghost at all.

[a weak smile.]

Sorry, Norma. We said all of that stuff about trusting each other and being friends, but…

Man. Yeah. Something happened there, and I guess I'm curious to know, but it feels kind of disingenuous to pick at it when it's not like at the end I'm going to be like, murder is okay, actually, and I accept you for who you are.
