It's a sport. There are two teams. One side's up to bat, the other's out in the field. The pitcher - that's the one in the center, there - will throw a ball to the other team's batter. They'll hit it and try to run the bases.

If someone catches the ball before it hits the ground, that batter is out. Or, if it hits the ground and they pick it up and throw it to one of the basemen - that's their teammates standing near the base - and the batter is out unless they've already stopped on the base, then they're safe. The people in the field can tag them while holding it to get them out, too, if they're close enough to do it before they get to a base...

Points are scored when someone makes it all the way around the bases and comes back to home plate - where they're standing when they hit the ball. But if a team has three outs, then they switch places, and it's the other team's turn to hit the ball and score points.
